Personal Reflections
My key learning points from each section…
  1. Importance of Water - Dirty and Clean
I learnt that there is currently no solutions to cleaning water and that there is an irony when you try to attempt to clean water as cleaning water requires machineries that will release things that will end up polluting water and there is a list of countries, things and people that are being affected from dirty water.
  1. Revolution of Microelectronics Technology
I learnt that microelectronics can do more than they seem like they can and that brainwaves play a huge role on a human’s life and thoughts. If you can control the brainwaves of a human body, you can control the actions of the human. By planting a nano chip in a human body, you enable the human to do things that he/she never knew he/she could. For example, planting a nano chip in the mute’s brain allows the mute to communicate by revealing ones thoughts.
  1. Biomedical Engineering & Technology
I learnt that a smaller size for a fixed volume gives you a larger surface area than a bigger size for a fixed volume and that is a reason why sugar cubes are small and small pieces of sugars are preferred to bigger sugar cubes as they will dissolve in the water at a faster rate.
  1. IT For Animation
I learnt that the labour cost of 3D movies is cheaper than the labour cost of 2D movies and that is also a reason why there are more 3D movies in this era as compared to 2D movies. 24 frames are needed per second and the difference in movement in each frame is minimal to allow the animation to flow without any “teleportations” of characters and such.
  1. Disappearing glaciers, rising sea levels, and why gravity is even more important than you think…
I learnt that the Earth has been constantly changing in shape and the change is not obvious to the naked eye as it is minimal. I learnt that the melting of glaciers affect the sea levels and that the earth’s sea level has been rising for the past 200 years. I also learnt that the closer two objects are, the higher the amount of gravitational force relative to the sea level.
The plenary session that leaves the deepest impression on me is the fifth one about disappering glaciers, rising sea levels and why gravity is even more important than you think. What I like about it is the fact that the Earth is changing and the humans living on earth are mostly oblivious to that fact except for the scientists and researchers that specialise in that department. It is also interesting to know that the sea levels on earth rises and drops in relation to glaciers.
I chose this project because I was interested in knowing how to extract caffeine from coffees and teas and I wanted to know more about the relationship between the inclination of a plank and the speed of the ball. My role in the group is to contribute and help out in research and carry out the instructions given or the steps we need to take.
Challenges we encounter when working on this project in the last two days is that we were unsure of the purpose and the reason to why certain things happened and how to overcome them by finding loopholes or such. We overcome these by finding out more information about the thing and asking around to know how others overcome the same problem or to find out more about what we can do to that problem.
Through this project, I discovered that there were many interesting things I didn’t know and that I still have a lot to learn and understand. I also discovered that
As an individual, I benefited from this programme by gaining knowledge and clearing my previous doubts.
